Authorised game handling establishments - specific plants for handling of wild meat where inspection by an OV and MHI will be carried out
If the farmed game is transported alive to the abattoir what happens?
It is treated the same as red meat with an ante and post mortem
Deer should be tagged and pigs should be slapmarked
If the farmed game is killed on the farm what happens?
AM done by an authorised veterinarian or OV and post mortem done at the abattoir by an OV/MHI
If the small wild game is killed on site (in the field) is there an ante/post mortem?
If for PC then no
If it goes to an AGHE then a post mortem will be carried out on 50 or 5% of carcasses
Who are trained people?
Automatically vets, doctors and environmental health officers/MHI’s
Other people go on a course with the national game keepers organisation or mantra
What must the trained person examine?
The body and vicera (although guts can be removed if the TP is unavailable immediately
Killing of large game that is not for PC requires a hunters declaration, what does this state?
Time/date and place of killing
Sates that there was no abnormal behaviour was observed, there is no chance of environmental contamination and no abnormal characteristics were seen on PM
Numbered and either attached to the cracass or clearly identifiable to that carcase
Caracases must also be numbered
Routinely farmed wild boars are tested for what? What about wild boar for PC?
Triquinosis and Trichinellosis

When you shoot a wild boar for an AGHE what must accompany the body for trichinella testing?
The head and the diaphragm
If you do not have a trained person declaration then the head, heart, lungs and liver must accompany the body
What is the inspection team like at an AGHE?
A MHI will visit every day and an OV when required/once a month
At an AGHE there must be sprat facilities for what?
