Emily Pankhurst was leader

  1. Acts of militance kept on agenda

IMPACT OF WW1

  1. PROPAGANDA: WSPU encourged women to support men during war
  2. 910,000 emplyed in munitions by 1918 (harsh working conditions)
  3. women worked in facotries making army clothing and weapons
  4. showed responsbility of women

CONCLUSION: although this showd the responsibility of women the PRE WAR MUNITIONS ACT meant women lost their jobs and it was quickly forgotten about how important they were

FACTOR 4

A

CHANGING ATTITUDES

BEFORE

  1. No votes for women
  2. not to be trusted
  3. little legal rights

AFTER

  1. 1872 EDUCTAION ACT: complusory education. women more informed and could grow a political voice
  2. Lloyd George considerably more sympathetic than Asquith
  3. Women started to work in male jobs= men accepted this
  4. GOVERNMENT WORRIED OF SUFFRAGE MOVEMENT

CONCLUSION: IF THIS WAS SO IMORTANT THEN WHY DIDNT IT HAPPEN EARLIER AND THE ROLE OF THE NUWSS ALSO HELPED CHANGE ATITUDES. THE REJECTED 1867 PARLIMENTARY BILL ON EQUALITY SO ATTITUDES WERE STILL FAIRLY ADIMENT.
