THE BERLIN BLOCKADE

  1. Stalin wanted to keep Germany weak to increase support for communism
  2. fuel tensions arose due to diffcult transport
  3. stalins bluff was revealed when the West continued support

CONCLUSION: the soviet union were highly embarssed by the failure of the blockade which made them want to find another way to sabbotage the west. ITS IMPORTANT BECAUSE THEY WANTED TO SHOW THEY WERE STRONG SO THEY KEPT ON PERSISITING

THE KOREAN WAR

  1. The war was fought by proxy
  2. first shot fired by US to show their strength
  3. all superpowers were involved and became a competition
  4. a way for the US to best communism
  5. hightened tensions

HOWEVER: some historians believe that the war was a product of the cold war and wasnt a cause. it esculated the war

TENSIONS WITHIN THE WARTIME ALLIANCE

  1. NAZI SOVIET PACT: West were suspsious as hitler promised to never declare war on Russia
  2. WEST INTERVENTION 1917 REVOLUTION: east equally as annoyed and was never forgotten
  3. SECOND FRONT: lack of western action on the front which lead to 25 million casualites and Soveits paid a higher price

THE FUTURE OF EASTERN EUROPE

  1. POTSDAM CONFERENCE 1945: free elections in germany, reparations paid to soviet union
  2. there were lots of disagreements
  3. stalin promised free elections but communism was growing support
  4. ATOMIC BOMB: lead east to be suspious
  5. BIG 3 CAME TOGETHER FOR FRIST TIME WITH 2 VERY DIFFERENT IDEOLOGIES.
