How did strength of private armies make Normandy a strong duchy?
Point: strong private armies meant that they could win battles and which lead to their power
Evidence: strong private armies owned by dukes that invested to make their armies good
Analysis: meant that they were an elite fighting force that could win battles and defend themselves so we’re very powerful and pope approved which lead to papel banner being given due to good Norman churches which gave soldiers confidence to fight.
Why did knights make Normandy a strong duchy?
Point: advanced fighting techniques and technology allowed them to defeat many enemies
Evidence: knights had stirrups allowing them to fight while on horseback therefore they had a height advantage over enemies allowing them to kill then easily
Analysis: this made them effective fighters so were rarely beaten in battle and had years of training meaning they were even more effective so Williams military prowess lead to strength of Normandy.

Point: feudal system lead to everyone contributing to benefit themselves
Evidence: dukes private armies meant they invested to make their armies better and knights wanted to fight in return for land
Analysis : motivated those involved for their own benefit so Normandy became a strong fighting force due to the benefits of being in the Norman fuedal system

Point: church was invested into meaning a strong sense of relationship with god Norman people had
Evidence: pope praises Norman Romanesque churches and monks and nuns for devotion
Analysis: people felt they had god on their side which made them happier and approval of pope made them happy
