Why IntO? Flashcards
3 points?
Direct support of Air and Space Power
Living through a pivotal and exciting moment for Intelligence
Massive Power changes are taking place from a militaristic, social, economic and political perspective
We’re living through a fourth industrial revolution focusing on information
The RAF is shifting from traditional warfare concepts to an embrace of information and Multi-Domain warfighting
What does the power changes mean?
With power shifts taking place all over the world, intelligence needs to monitor those situations and when planning any Air Ops, consider the ramifications two or three steps down the line, now that we’re operating in a post-Gerasimov’s Doctrine state of conflict
Gerasimov’s Doctrine?
Effectively, a warfighting mentality wherein you avoid a declaration of war by using tactics to achieve your goals and muddying the distinctions between peacetime, diplomatic times and warfare.
This can be achieved through state sponsored uprising, social media manipulation and cyber attacks on civilian infrastructure in order to reinforce a narrative
What’s the deal with the fourth industrial revolution?
Effectively the industrial revolution is changing how we do things as much as it is in civilian environments
3 examples are the growth of Cyber, the Internet, automated and procedural generations of systems and processes.
Cyber Intelligence is becoming a much more dynamic area than ever before, especially with the formation of 23 Gp and the potential for a lot of non-physical kinetic activity if handled correctly is astounding.
The internet is consistently becoming a vital source of information for the intelligence branch to process
Automatic generation of processes will continue to streamline and provide more rich and relevant data for the Intelligence branch to interpret into actionable Intel
What’s with multi-domain?
Integration of Multi-Domain warfare is not a new concept but with Space and Cyber there are now more components than ever.
As a result we need to think not only about the impact our intelligence has on air and Space power but also on land and sea based Ops and how we can accommodate and work in tandem with them
Space?
Particularly from an Int perspective, Space is proving to be a massive advantage in terms of being able to provide high quality surveillance and communications
Anything else?
With an increased focus on data and recognition that our grasp on air and space superiority could have potentially slipped by 2025, the requirement to focus on new means of processing data will lead to more products like DARKSTAR, an operational cloud based architecture that will drastically shift intelligence focuses away from traditional means of warfare.
How will it Darkstar change the traditional ways of fighting?
Inmproved intelligence flow will allow troops on the ground to have more control of the situation and will delegate responsibility to those who need it in the moment to improve the spread of results
