What is Op AZOTIZE?
Typhoon Sqn deployed to Lithuania as part of NATO’s Baltic Air Policing Mission
What is Op NEWCOMBE?
Deployment of Chinook helicopters to Mali to support French operations countering illegal trade in people, drugs, weapons and wildlife
What is Op KIPION?
RAF supports the ongoing maritime presence maintaining peace in the Middle East, primarily through support services.
What is Op SHADER?
Operation combatting the presence of IS/Daesh, primarily through the use of air strikes from Typhoon, Tornado, Reaper and Lightning with more than 4300 weapons launched throughout the conflict.
What is Op TORAL?
An ongoing military presence in Afghanistan since the stand down of Op HERRICK, helping rebuild and stabilise the country in association with Afghan forces.
Why are we in the Falkland Islands?
Falkland Islands is a dependant territory of the UK with a military presence to deter military aggression against South Atlantic Overseas Territories.
Why are we in Gibraltar?
To maintain British sovereignty. Gibraltar is an operational airhead capable of mounting UK and coalition military operations and supporting major NATO exercises in the Mediterranean and Iberian peninsular area.
Why are we in Cyprus?
Cyprus acts as a gateway to the Middle East, both for transport, warfare and logistics purposes and for Defence Intelligence purposes.
We also have Griffin helicopters positioned at Akrotiri that are used to aid RocPol and Cyp National Guard with Search and Rescue
