The church didnt live godly lives, they were corrupt and greedy for power. Merchants/traders didnt like that the church had a change over their daily lives.

People wanted the church to belong to their own country without the pope.

With the development of printing, the protestant church would be widely known.

A
If you lived on church land you would have to pay a tax of 10%. This didnt help since the church owned a third of Europe.
