What is the replica technique for complete dentures?
replicating the positives of previous dentures which has become worn or loose (as ridge resorbs).
What are two oral mucosal issues that may occur due to denture use?
- Denture stomatitis: denture bearing area is red and has sloughing. FUNGAL infection, CANDIDA ALBICANS.
- Denture hyperplasia: denture digs into soft tissue, causing overgrowth of the fibrous tissue.
What is the treatment for denture stomatitis?
May have to use chlorhexidine mouthwash or antifungals.
What is the treatment for denture hyperplasia?
Adjust the denture, area of overgrowth will shrink back.
What material is used for primary impressions?
ALGINATE (even if very resorbed ridge).
What are the 2 types of special trays?
- WITH SPACING: 3mm spacer for use with alginate/ medium bodied silicone.
- Close fitting trays: used for a very resorbed ridge. Use light bodied materials (light body silicone, zinco oxide eugenol paste).
What materials can be used with close fitting trays?
Light bodied materials:
- Zinc oxide eugenol.
- Light body silicone.
What are record blocks made of?
Wax - may ask for base plate of shellac or heat cured acrylic
What can the patient choose in terms of teeth in complete dentures?
Setting, shade, mould (shape and size).
What 2 things must be done at the end of the OCCLUSION stage?
- Choose tooth setting, shade and mold (size and shape)
- MARK CENTRE LINE
What is used to ensure the record blocks are mounted correctly onto the articulator in complete denture cases?
The centre line/ groove.
what is the method by which we finish acrylic dentures?
Flask the wax dentures, replace them with acrylic via INJECTION MOLDING.
When do you ideally want to see the patient following insertion/ finish?
1-2 weeks.
Patient comes in for review/ ease appointment and has no major issues. When will they be seen again?
1 year recall.
