Q

Economics

A

From the 1770’s the West Indies were becoming less important. Many sugar plantations were shut down. It became clearer that it was cheaper to employ ex-slaves rather than to house and feed new slaves. This meant there was less profit for the slave traders so they decided to stop using slaves and it made them look good too.
