Reasons for the abolition of slavery
A
For:
- Slaves were treated very badly- they didn’t have human rights.
- People were kidnapped
- You can’t “own” another person

Reasons against the abolition of slavery
A
Against:
- It brought in money/ power to Britain
- A view that black people were less important than white making white people more important.
- People claimed that the cruelty was exaggerated.

When was slavery abolished in Britain?
A
In 1807 the slave trade was abolished by the british parliament but owning a slave was only made illegal in 1833.
