Axle Positioning
Normal-Under the shoulder or slightly posterior
Bariatric-Move rear axle forward because COM is displaced forward
BIlateral Trans-Femoral Amputation-To improve the user’s balance, move the rear wheel axle behind the clients shoulders (2 inches posteriorly)
Tilt-In Space Wheelchair
Typically a power chair. Used for ALS, higher level SCI, Post-Polio syndrome, PEDs. Also for those with extensor tone. Also for pressure relief.

For patients who have Poor upright trunk support or for patients with catheters req’d changing

ADA WC Requirements
For every inch of rise you have 12 inches of run (AKA 4.8 degree slope)
Door Size=
Door minimum clear opening width of 32 inches when the door is opened to 90 degrees.
Hallway Size
Hallway for 1 chair = 36 inches
Hallway for 2 chairs = 60 inches
Turning Space
60 inches
ADA WC Bathroom Requirements
Sink=
shall be mounted with the counter or rim no higher than 34 in above the finish floor and no lower than 27 in
Toilet=
Shall be 17-19 inches from the floor
Grab Bars=
Shall be 36 inches above the floor
Total maneuvering room inside stall=
Shall be 60 inches
How to do wheelie?
Hold posterior wheels firmly while pulling them forward quickly and abruptly, lean head and trunk forward.
