  • Control: Edward on the throne since 1st Mar 1461 and coronated on 28th June 1461,
    had support of Nevilles, Mowbrays and Bourchiers,
    had links to other noble families through 3 minor peerages and female family members
  • Weakened Lancs: deaths of Northumberland, Dacre, Trollope, Wiltshire, Wells + Willoughby

Weaknesses

A
  • Lancs still active: fled to Scotland but not destroyed at Towton,
    Jasper Tudor still active in Wales,
    N of Newcastle was out of Yorkist control,
    had foreign support of James III, and hoped this would secure Louis XI too
  • Insecure throne: highly dependent on Nevilles,
    needed a broadly-based regime to govern securely so forced to offer pardons
