What is the 1948 WHO definition of health?
A state of complete physical, mental and social well being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity
What are two factors that determine normality?
Statistical

Describe statistical normality
The normal distribution:
When statistic plotted along horizontal axis for the variable (i.e. time) with the vertical axis representing probability of observing the value - it produces a bell shaped curve
Describe culture normality
Depends on expectations and standard of the society, and thus on political and economic factors as well
Apply ‘normality’ to peak flow readings
Somebodies ‘normal’ range may be out of the statistical predicted normal level, and the average range may indicate that the patient is unwell
Apply ‘normality’ to FBC
Haemoglobin levels may lie in ‘abnormal’ range, but that valve may be normal and healthy to the individual
