The fitter you are the better your heart and blood vessels circulate blood. To keep the blood pumping, your heart needs oxygen and food. It gets them from its own blood supply, carried in the coronary arteries. If these get blocked it results in heart disease. cholesterol or a clot can block arteries so that the blood flow stops. This blockage is called a thrombosis. A heart attack is caused by a blockage in the coronary arteries. A stroke is caused by a blockage in the blood vessels leading to the brain.
