What Does A Historian Do? Flashcards
Sources
Evidence, for example, documents and pictures used by historians to find out what happened in the past.
Primary source
A primary source is one that comes directly from the past. For example a diary from a person who was at an event, an interview with an eyewitness, letters or emails, newspapers, magazines or artefacts
Secondary source
A secondary source is evidence that comes from a later date. They are written after the event. Some examples are history books, the internet, stories, films or documents.
Pre-History
Pre-history is the period before writing was used. For example the Bronze Age. We use archaeology to get evidence from this period.
History
The historic period when writing was used. For example, we know a lot the monks in early christian ireland because they wrote manuscripts.
Bias
Historians are biased is they deliberately favour one side over the other
Propaganda
Propaganda is using information to influence people’s opinions or to convince people that a particular belief is true
Chronology
Chronology is putting events in order of time (when they happened)
