A type of art found in la téne Switzerland which describes ornaments decorated with spirals, circles and curved patterns

Raths
Raths were first enclosed by circular ditches or mounds of earth. The fort was usually built of timber, but in places where wood was scarce stone was used. Stone Raths are called cashels
Crannógs
Crannógs are man -made islands in lakes. The name comes from irish wood for tree, crann. A circle of wooden stakes was put into the bed of the lake. Then buyers of stones, mud and twigs were put into the water level. A Wooden fence was put around the mound and houses were built inside the fence. The houses were similar to those found in raths
Hill forts
Hillforts were like Raths, but much bigger and built on a hill. Archaeologists think that they were used for importance such as religious festivals and markets
Promontary forts
They were usualy built on cliff tops. They were found mainly on the south and west coast. The inner enclosure.
Léine
This is a knee lenght linen tunic worn by ruch men and was tied at the waist by a crois. They also wore wooden cloaks which were pinned at the shoulder with a gold or silver brooch, these were called brats
Ogham stones
These are standing stones that are on graves. They were carved with lines on the edge of the stone, it is thought that the lines spell the name of the person. Urged in the grave. Ogham is the earliest form of writing in Ireland.
The celts
A farming and warlike people who came from Central Europe. Their power was based on their skills to use iron
