What are dualist theories?
Believe that the mind is distinct from the body, and a completely physical account of a human being won’t be able to explain consciousness
What are physicalist theories?
We can explain the mind in terms of the physical
What are phenomenal properties/ qualia
feelings produced by certain mental states
The way that qualia feels/ appears to you is said to be directly accessible by inspecting your own personal experience (Aka introspection, which is having direct/privileged access to ones mental state)
They are also private, only you can experience it
This also means you can’t be mistaken about its nature, as you’re directly aware
Qualia is intrinsic: their natures of what they are by virtue of the way they are and not because of their relationship to anything else
What is Intentionality
Mental states such as beliefs, fears and hopes about something (The quality that makes a mental state about something is a called intentionality)
