one muslim teaching is that physical punishment is allowed for breaking religious rules/laws. for example the quran says “if a woman or man is guilty of adultery flog each of them 100 strikes”. this is a weak argument as in a modern society this may be outdated as violence is seen as immoral.
what is one christian teaching? (revenge and retribution)
one christian teaching is that punishments are allowed in the form of retribution. for example, the old testament says, “eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth”. this is a strong argument as it allows a victim, or a victims family feel as though their justice has been served.
what is one christian teaching? (deterrance)
one christian teaching is that punishments are allowed in the form of a deterrent. for example, the old testament says “whoever sheds human blood, by humans shall their blood be shed”. this is a strong argument as in some countries the death penalty is used for murderers and helps keep society safe.

one christian teaching is that revenge shouldn’t be used. for example, the new testament says, “(…) turn to them the other cheek also”. this is a weak argument because it contradicts the old testament which Jesus himself followed.

one christian teaching is Jesus’ teaching of agape love. this means that christians must always do the most considerate thing for others. this is a strong argument because Jesus teaches in the new testament to “love your enemies, do good to those who hate you”.

one muslim teaching is that punishment should be used to uphold justice. for example the quran says “stand out firmly for justice (…) and whether it be against rich or poor”. this is a strong argument as it encourages fair trials and helps victims of crime get what they want.
