What is Fluency?

What is Acquired Stammering?
Characterised by an abnormally high frequency and/or duration of stoppages in the forward flow of speech
that could be linked to a significant event
What is Developemental Stammering?
Characterised by an abnormally high frequency and/or duration of stoppages in the forward flow of speech that an individual is born with.
What is cluttering
A fluency disorder characterized by a rate that is perceived to be abnormally rapid, irregular or both for the speaker
What is selective mutism?
A childhood anxiety disorder characterised by a child or adolescent’s inability to speak in one or more social settings, despite being about to speak comfortably in other settings.

What is mental health?
‘clinically significant behavioural or psychological syndrome or pattern that occurs in an individual and that is associated with present distress or disabilityor with a significantly increased risk of suffering death, pain, disability, or an important loss of freedom’. (See Stein et al 2010).
What is DLD?
A language disorder that is not associated with a known biomedical condition
What is expressive language?
The ability to express wants and needs
What is receptive language?
The ability to understand words and language
What is dysphagia?
an abnormality in the transfer of a bolus from the mouth to the stomach

difficulties with producing speech segments in isolation, single words or connected speech, regardless of the origin of the difficulty
