How do you diagnose WNV?
A
IgM capture ELISA - horses develop an intense IgM response which lasts 6 weeks - sensitivity 81% specificity 100%

What are the histological findings of WNV?
A
Lesions increase in number from diencephalon through the hindbrain and increase in severity caudally through the spinal cord - mononuclear peri vascular cuffing, chromatolytic neurons and neuronophagia
