What is the pathophysiology of Borna virus?
A
virus gets access to the nasal mucosa and migrates to the olfactory bulbs via axonal transport - once in CNS it migrates centrifugal to the PNS
Tropism for limbic system - especially the hippocampus

What are the histological lesions of Borna virus?
A
Severe immune mediated non-suppurative meningoencephalitis- lesions in Ammons horn, olfactory bulb , caudate nuclei, thalamus and less commonly the cerebellar nuclei
