Weight, Mass, Gravity, and Resultant Forces (72 & 73) Flashcards
What is Gravity?
Gravitational Force is the Force of attraction between two masses.
What is the effect of Gravity?
It causes objects to Accelerate towards the Earth.
At what rate does Gravity cause things to be accelerated towards the Earth?
About 10m/s2
What is Mass?
Mass is the ‘amount of stuff’ in an object. It can be measured in units such as Kg.
What is Weight?
The Weight of an object is the Force of Gravity acting upon its Mass.
What units do we measure Weight in?
Newtons
What is the formula for Weight?
w=m x g
What is the Resultant Force of an object?
The Resultant Force of an object is the sum of all Forces acting upon it or the ‘net’ Force acing upon an object.
What does it mean if the Resultant Force of an object is 0?
It means that the object is either stationary or moving at a constant speed.
What does a Resultant Force cause?
A change in an object’s Velocity i.e. Acceleration or Deceleration.
