WEEKS 3: DRUGS AFFECTING THE AUTONOMIC NERVOUS SYSTEM Flashcards
Sympathetic vs Parasympathetic
Sympathetic: arterioles (vasoconstrictions), veins (vasoconstriction)
Parasympathetic: heart (slow heart rate), iris (miosis), GI motility (active peristalsis), Urinary bladder (active motility)
What is included in sympathetic Alpha 1 receptor
alpha 1 receptor include: smooth muscles of blood vessel and prostate
What is included in sympathetic alpha 2 receptor
central: brain stem
What is included in sympathetic beta 1 receptor?
heart
what is included in sympathetic beta 2 receptor?
lungs and peripheral
what is included in parasympathetic cholimnergic muscarinic 1 receptors (M1)?
Cerebral cortex, gastric, and salivary gland
what is included in parasympathetic cholinergic Muscarinic 2 receptors (M1)?
Cardiac, smooth muscles
what is included in parasympathetic cholinergic Muscarinic 3 receptors (M1)?
GI, smooth muscles
what is included in parasympathetic cholinergic nicotinic receptors?
Skeletal muscles, post ganglion in ANS, adrenal medulla
Sympathetic Adrenergic Receptors: binds to
norepinephrine
Parasympathetic Cholinergic/ Muscarinic Receptors: binds to_____ receptors
acetylcholine
Sympathetic (Adrenergic)
Agonist
Drugs that bind to adrenergic receptors on the effector organs
Increase the sympathetic nervous system response (exert same biological response as norepinephrine does) :
: β agonist or α agonist
Parasympathetic (Cholinergic)
Agonist
Drugs that bind to cholinergic receptors Increase the parasympathetic nervous system response ( exert same biological responses as acetylcholine does )
Sympathetic (Adrenergic)
Antagonist
Drugs that bind to adrenergic receptors
But decrease the sympathetic nervous system response
alpha-blockers, beta-blockers
Parasympathetic (Cholinergic)
Antagonist
Drugs that bind to cholinergic receptors
But decrease the parasympathetic nervous system response:
