Association
a connection between two or more elements
Attitude(s)
A consciously held belief or opinion that causes to either lean toward a thing or situation. Attitudes can be thought of as automatic responses, stored in the Subconscious.
Belief
An emotional acceptance of a proposition, statement or doctrine. Our beliefs become the foundation for our actions and behaviors, and form the core of who we believe we are.
Conscious
The aspect of the mind that encompasses all that we are momentarily aware of; the focal point of our senses- sight, sound, touch, and smell, allowing us to perceive the world around us.
Creative Subconscious
The source of mental processes that leads to ideas solutions, artistic forms, new or novel concepts and theories.
Decision
Arriving at a course of action, based on knowledge and experience.
Environment
The combination of external physical surroundings that influence the growth of organisms; social and cultural conditions that affect the nature of a community; may be positive or negative in its effect.
Evaluation
Determination of value or worth, based on past knowledge and experience.
Expectations
The prospect of a future realization of a currently abstract idea; an anticipation for the future.
Habits
A learned act or behavior that has become, through repetition, automatic, fixed and easily carried out.
Lock-on/Lock-out
When we lock-on to an opinion, belief or attitude as being the truth about something, we build scotomas to, or lock-out, contrary or different information.
Locus of Control
A way to measure if we feel control of our lives is outside of us, or inside of us. Those who believe in self-reliance and self- accountability have an internal locus of control. Those who feel helpless and not personally accountable have an external locus of control.
Neuroplasticity
The capacity of the brain and nervous system to develop new neural connections throughout life. The brain never stops growing.
Perception
A conscious process initiated by an external event; initializes analysis of sensory input provided by our senses.
PERMA
The five elements that are essential to flourishing. These are Positive Emotion, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, And Accomplishment. People that tend to be more satisfied with life follow these elements.
Potential
Having the strong possibility of becoming real and actual; currently latent and not expressed, but accessible through goal-setting.
Reality
All that forms what an individual believes to be real. It is our perceptions and assessments of our new environment and how they go together with our culture and values.
Reticular Activation System (RAS)
A network of neurons in the brainstem involved in consciousness; a primary alert to awareness network that transmits sensory stimuli to higher brain centers.
Sanity
Soundness of mind and judgement. A mental state whereby we are able to function on a day-to-day basis with the world around us.
Scotoma
Blindness or a blind spot; a sensory blocking out of information from our environment, leaving limited perceptions.
Self-efficacy
One’s appraisal of one’s own ability to cause, bring about or make happen; one’s capacity to produce the desired effect; a combination of self-esteem, skills and resources; task specific.
Self-Regulation
Adhering to and managing an internal standard of behavior and action.
Subconscious
The level of the mind through which information passes on the way to full consciousness; information storage area of the mind, containing our memories that may be outside of awareness at the moment.
Threat
Words or actions that frighten or imperil.
Truth
Truth is what we perceive it as.
Value
The quality of worth or merit, excellence and importance; custom or ideal that people desire as an end, often shared within a group.
