Week 9/ Week 10 Flashcards
Slope formula:
rise/run or Y2-Y1/X2-X1
Midpoint formula
(X1+X2/2, Y1+Y2/2)
A line that goes upward from left to right ha a/n
positive slope
A line that goes downward from left to right has a/n
negative slope
A horizontal line has a/n
slope of zero
A vertical line has a/n
undefined slope
When 0 in a slope is in the numerator e.q 0/4 the solution will be:
0
When 0 in a slope is in the denominator e.q 4/0 the solution will be:
Undefined
Distance Formula
d= square root of (X2-X1)^2 = (Y2-Y1)^2
Which one is positive in a fraction that have a negative sign e.q - 3/4 ? Is it the denomiator or numerator?
The numerator (which is -3)
Does the slope or the y-intercept that represent the change?
The slope, the y-intercept represents the total
Parallel Lines and Parallel Slope Property
Two nonvertical lines are parallel if and only if they have the same slope.
All vertical lines are parallel to each other.
Vertical lines are parallel only to other vertical lines.
Perpendicular Lines and Perpendicular Slope Property
Two nonvertical lines are perpendicular if and only if the product of their slopes is -1.
All vertical lines are perpendicular to all horizontal lines and vice versa.
Vertical lines are perpendicular only to horizontal lines and vice versa.
How to solve a word problem with a linear function
If the equation have a time and dollar and asks us about the dollars in a given time, we first subtract both times. Then, we subtract both dollars. We divide the dollars by the time. We subtract the given time we need to solve with the time that is already solved. We multiply the result of the subtraction and the divison. After we get the result, we add it to the dollars that is given in the equation.
If its not clear review Application problem with a linear function: Finding a coordinate given two points
