Week 11 Flashcards
The equation represents a direct variation if and only if
it can be written in the form y=kx
K is a nonzero constant called the constant of variation
A relationship between x and y is a direct variation if and only if
it can be written in the form y=km, where k does not equal 0
In a direct variation, the ration of y to x is
constant y/x exept when x=0
When x=0, we always have y=0 in direct variation
Factor Therom
A number c is a zero of a polynomial f(x) if and only if x-c is a factor of f(x).
We say that x varies directly with y if they are related by an equation of the following form.
x=ky
We also say that x is directly proportional to y.
Direct variation
We say that x varies inversely with y if they are related by an equation of the following form.
x=k/y
We also say that x is inversely proportional to y.
Inverse variation
We say that x varies jointly with y and z if they are related by an equation of the following form.
x=kyz
We also say that x is jointly proportional to y and z.
Joint variation
A relationship between x and y is a ……… if and only if it can be written in the form y=kx , where k is not equall 0.
In a …….., the ratio of y to x is constant. y/x=k
direct variation
A relationship between x and y is an ………. if and only if it can be written in the form y=k/x, where k is not equall 0.
In an ………, the product of and is constant. xy=k
inverse variation
