Stereotype
A response to something or someone which relies on previously stored information instead of in coming information.
Prejudice
an unfair and unreasonable opinion or feeling, especially when formed without enough thought or knowledge
Discrimination
Treating someone less favourbly because of their group membership.
Dehumanisation
the act of regarding, representing, or treating a person or group as less than human
Infrahumanisation
A categorisation of a group of people as less fully human than the person’s own group
Marginalised
When a group is systematically excluded and discriminated against within society.
Just world belief
A tendency to believe that the world is fair.
Colonial racism
The creation of the concept of race by colonisers. In turn, the concept validated their desire to control and dominate the people they deemed as belonging to a lesser race.
Antisemitism
Prejudice against or hostility towards Jewish people
Patriarchy
A political system where men are categorised as superior and dominate women.
Structural inequalities
When societies, organisations, or groups are organised to systemically benefit some categories of people and disadvantage some categories of people.
Oppression
The experience of being under the excessive authority of another.
Psychological oppression
When a person internalises the idea that they’re inferior because of the stereotypes attached to their group.
Racialisation
A process of being identified as a racial category and treated accordingly.
Double bind
Where a person is faced with two undesirable options.
