What aspects do you consider in assessing Mr J’s pain?
You would ask a series of questions by using a number of guiding tools
WILDA or PQRST
Numerical pain scale OR Visual Analogue Scale (VAS)
Have you had this pain before? When did it commence? Is the pain ongoing or episodic? Aggravating/ Alleviating factors? Quality of pain is it stabbing, throbbing, burning, radiating? Where is your pain level at out of 10, after receive pain medication?
These answers are only some of the ways in which this can be answered
Action of opioid analgesics?
Mechanism of action is that they work on the opioid receptors to inhibit neurotransmitters, in both the central and peripheral nervous system where the neurotransmission of pain is disrupted temporarily.
Common adverse effects of Pethidine include?
Nausea Vomiting Dizziness Light-headed Constipation Dry mouth Sweating
What is the antidote to opioid analgesia?
Naloxone
