what is a business process?
a network of activities, resources, facilities and information that work together to perform some business function or achieving some goal.
what is business process management
the systematic process of creating assessing and changing business processes.
what are the 4 stages of BPM? explain what happens in each.
create a model of business process componants.
- users review and adjust model
- as-is model documents the current process that is then changed to solve the process problems.
create the system componants using the five elements of IS.
Implement the business process.
create policy for an ongoing assessment of the process effectiveness. adjust and repeat cycles.
what is a functional process? what are the pros and cons?
a process that only happens within a single deparment. easy to implement but can lead to other inefficiencies.
what is a cross-functional process? what are the pros and cons?
these processes are shared across different departments which can make them harder to implement but also reduce information silos.
explain information silos and the problems that go with them.
information silos are stores of information caused by a lack of sharing which can cause inefficiencies such as data duplication. e.g. changes to data may only be made in one database leading to data elsewhere becoming outdated.

predesigned processes. industry best practice.

what are the 3 types of decisions? explain each
operational - day to day
low or no collaberation.
managerial - focus on the allocation and utilisation of resources. some collaboration.
strategic - much broader in scope and centre around organisational issues. almost always collaborative.
