explain the two types of storage.
non-volatile - not at risk of being lost. magnetic disk, solid state, usb.
volatile - can lose data when power is lost. cache and main memory.
what is opperating system software?
a set of programs that controls the hardware and provides the interface for applications. windows, android.
what is application software?
software developed to help the user perform a task or solve a problem. eg microsoft word.
what is firmware?
special software installed on read-only memory. usually only changed by an IS professional. eg printers
explain a license.
a right to use a specified number of copies. limited vendor liability.
explain a site license.
flat fee to install software on all company computors or all computors at a specific site.

no licensing fee. the source code is available for free but it may have other costs such as maintenece or a fee to contact the developer.
