Non-traumatic - tumor, disease
C1-C4 functional impact
No function for B/B
Can’t dress , groom, self-care
T1-T5 functional impact
What it controls - abs, lower back and legs
Little to no trunk stability
T6-T12 functional impact
Paraplegic
Can manage on own with special equipment
Little to no voluntary control of B/B
L1-L2 functional impact
Little to no hip flexion
Paraplegic
Loss of B/B
Numbness
L3-L4 functional impact
Hips and legs
May cause numbness extending to the feet (sciatic nerve)
OTA intervention for Cervical, Thoracic, Lumbar
C - wheelchair education on chin and head control
T - education on skin management
L - education and usage on lumbar belts for support
PTA interventions for Cervical, thoracic, and Lumbar
C - ROM
T - bed mobility
L - strengthening and maintaining strength
Quadraplegia
Loss of function of all 4 limbs
Paraplegia
Loss of function for 2 limbs
Complete injury
Total loss of motor and sensory function below the level of injury
Incomplete injury
Partial loss of motor and sensory function below the level of injury
Tenodesis function
Use of wrist to control the fingers
Extention = closed fingers
Flexion = opened fingers
Autonomic Dysreflexia (AD)
Sudden and severe increase in BP
