Week 8 memory Flashcards
2 types of declarative memory
semantic (generalised memory) and episodic (autobiographical)
Talk about HM
Seizures, central temporal lobes, medial temporal lobotomy, removing medial section of temporal lobes, including amygdala, hippocampus
Preserved STM, some retrograde amnesia, severe anterograde amnesia.
Non-declarative learning performance fine
testing of the delayed non-matching to sample test (declarative) showed peririhinal cortex most involved in declarative memory, hippo = moderate or mild deficits, amygdala not much effect
Where do the ‘what’ and ‘where’ parts of information that end up in the hippocampus come from?
what = perirhinal where = parahippocampal hippocampus = activates during the processing of associations
Describe the differences in requirements for recollection and familiarity
‘What’ and ‘Where’ recollection requires intact hippocampus, whereas familiarity relies more on input from the perirhinal cortex
