Week 8 Flashcards
Trend between standard of living, personal relationships, health and age
Even if health declines, life satisfaction and personal relationships still remain high after age 50
Personal relationships increase starting at the age 40-49 group (same as life satisfaction)
Trends between satisfaction with life and marital status
Highest satisfaction in married or living common law
Lowest in separated
Married/living common law => widowed => single/never married => divorced => separated
Traditional families vs. modern families
Traditional: mom, dad, two kids living in the same household
Modern: Multigenerational household, boomerang children, 4-2-1
Pets are good
yes
However, the percentage of pet owners decreases by age
Overall, are home care needs met, partially met or unmet?
Overall, home care needs are met and help was received.
As you get older, percentage of people who received help and needs were met increases gradually
Number of people receiving help and needs are not met also increases
Trend between age and not having a regular health care provider
Under 17 years old: Mid percentage of people without health care practitioner (parents take care of health appointments, parental health care coverage)
18-34 years old: greatest percentage of people without a health care provider (due to relocation, gaining independence in seeking health care)
Over 35 years old: lowest percentage of people without a health care provider (more serviced are needed)
Across all ages, males are less likely to have a health care provider (due to women going through pregnancy and maternal services, females more proactive with health)
Trend between caregivers’ by type of housing of primary care receiver
Before 85 y.o. and older, at home, separate households held the largest percentage. After 85 y.o., at home, separate households and care facility or supportive housing is similar
At home, shared household has almost always been the lowest, but it is higher in the 65-74 y.o. range. (even increased in 2012 compared to 2007 in that age group)
As you age, you are more likely to live in care facility or supportive housing
Trend of labour force and age throughout the years
People are working longer because they are living longer
Trend between older people and collective dwellings
Decrease in older adults living in collective dwellings as age increases - Goes down because there are less older persons as age goes up
People who live in collective dwellings are more likely to be older though
Proportion of the population aged 85 and older living in collective dwellings, by type of collective dwellings
As you get older, you are more likely to live in nursing home
When you are younger, you are more likely to live in residences for senior citizens
Pretty similar in percent for facilities with multiple levels of care
