What is the Forming Stage
This is the stage where groups come together.
- It is generally a comfortable time
- People are nice to each other (desire to be like and accepted by group), and focus on getting to know eachother.
How is the GROUP DEVELOPMENT in the Forming Stage?
Personal Effectiveness - Feeling unsure
Cohesion - Low (Need to reach a certain level of comfort)
Trust - Low (Superficial convos, Caution to share)
Productivity - Low (Focused on getting to know each other)
Transformational Change - Almost non existent
What is the Storming Stage?
Group members begin to question differences and assert their individualness.
How is the GROUP DEVELOPMENT in the Storming Stage?
Personal Effectiveness - Begin to feel comfortable and start challenging another ( pushing for structure)
Cohesion - Lower then before (to build cohesion, you need to identify roles/structure)
Trust - Building occurs (if members listen/accept challenges)
Productivity - Low with respect to tasks.
Transformational Change - Begins ( Step back and evaluate, which gives some awareness on our values/beliefs)
What is the Norming/Performing Stage
Time of greater acceptance/understanding. Experiences a sense of collaboration and higher trust.
How is the GROUP DEVELOPMENT in the Norming/Performing Stage ?
Personal Effectiveness - High (Sense of settling in, more comfortable, feel useful)
Cohesion - High (Leadership is determined, acceptance of strengths/weakness/goals is clear)
Trust - High
Productivity - High (All contribute to high quality work)
Transformational Change - High (Important to step out of the group and asses your own change.
What is the Adjourning Stage?
A time to recognize accomplishments, and grieving that occurs after the task is completed and everyone says goodbye.
How is the GROUP DEVELOPMENT in the Adjourning Stage ?
Personal Effectiveness - End (Work is done/group has come to an end)
Cohesion / Trust - High , Hard to end (The more trust and cohesion, harder it is to say goodbye)
Productivity - Focus on formal closure (Productive assessment “what went well?”)
