Week 7 (Behaviour and Hydrotherapy) Flashcards
Self-efficacy
The belief you have in what you can do is going to be the strongest kind of driver towards how you behave
Why do those with chronic pain have trouble with behaviour change
Those with chronic pain will do a lot and stop when they have pain and repeat this so overtime it takes less for them to flare up again
How to pace up someone with chronic pain
Measure their walking tolerance over 3 days (distance/time they can do the activity without a pain flare) > establish a baseline quota > create an exercise plan and repeat the task daily > increase by 10% each week > break activities into smaller chunks
This will help with energy conservation allowing focus on activities or daily living and/or exercise. Also performance accomplishments; success raises mastery expectations. If they can achieve it every week, they will improve their self-efficacy.
