Week 5-6 (CR Fitness) Flashcards
What to measure while exercise testing
Cardiovascular: chest pain, signs of impaired perfusion, light headedness, ECG rhythm changes, inappropriate changes in HR or BP
Respiratory: intolerance dyspnoea
MSK impairment: leg cramps or extreme leg muscle fatigue, general signs of fatigue or subject asks to stop
Indications to stop an exercise test
- Onset of angina or angina-like symptoms
- Drop in SBP from baseline despite increase in workload
- Excessive rise in SBP > 250mmHg
- Signs of poor perfusion
- Failure or HR to increase with increased exercise
What to record before 6MWT
BP, HR, SPO2, Dyspnoea
FITT: Type/mode
Want to perform muscles that use large muscle mass in dynamic activity due to more fibres recruited and more muscle contraction
FITT: Intensity
150 min of moderate-intensity exercise per week
FITT: Time
20-30 mins considered optimal
FITT: Frequency
4 times a week optimal
2 methods of calculating exercise intensity
- %HRmax
Find HRmax, calculate 70-85% of that and equates to 55% to 75% vo2max - HRRmax (better)
Subtract resting HR from HRmax and find 60-80% of that and then add resting HR to those values
RPE score of ? equates to 40-84% HRR
