Week 7 Flashcards
What is segmented nerve supply
One spinal chord segment supplies one area
What is intergrated supply segment
A number of spinal chord segments supplies an area for complex coodinate muscle activity
plexus
Componants of the Spinal Chord
- Posterior longitudinal ligament
- epidural fat
- dua mata
- arachnoid mata
- subarachnoid space
- pia mata
- spinal chord
Arrangment of Nerves through the intervertebral foramen
8 pairs of cervical nerves from the above
12 pairs of thoracic nerves from below
5 pairs of lumbar nerves from below
5 pairs of sacral nerves
1 pair of cocygeal nerves from sacral hiatus
fate of the dorsal primary ramus. Which nerves remain segmented?
C1-C8
T1-12

Fate of the Ventral primary ramus: Plexuses
C1-4 = Cervical plexus
C5-11 = brachial plexus
L1-L5 = lumbar plexus
S1-S4 = Sacral plexus
S5-Co = Coccygeal plexus
Fate of the ventral primary ramus: Segmented
T1-T11 = intercostal nerves
T12 = Subcostal nerve
What are muscles that develop in an Epaxial position supplied by?
Dorsal primary ramus
What are the muscles that develop in a hypaxial postition supplied by?
Ventral primary ramus
What are the muscle that migrate from a epaxial to hypaxial?
Dorsal primary ramus
e.g. levator costarum
What are the muscles that migrate from hypaxial to epaxial?
ventral primary ramus
e.g. levator scap, serratus posterior superior and inferior, latissimus dorsi.
What will the upper limbs or the pectorial girdle be supplied by?
brachial plexus (C5-8 + T1)
What will the thoracic and abdominal wall be supplied by?
Intercostal nerve (T1-12 + subcostal)
What is the lower limbs supplied by?
lumbosacral plexus (l1-5, S1-4)
What muscles of the pelvic diaphram are innovated by?
coccygeal plexus
