Week 7 Flashcards
Series Circuit
a closed circuit in which the current follows one path
Parallel Circuit
a closed circuit in which the current divides into two or more paths before recombining to complete the circuit
Switch
a device for making and breaking the connection in an electric circuit.
Direct Current
an electric current flowing in one direction only.
Alternating Current
an electric current that reverses its direction many times a second at regular intervals, typically used in power supplies.
Circuit Overload
happen when more amperage is put across an electrical wire or circuit than it can handle
Fuse
a safety device consisting of a strip of wire that melts and breaks an electric circuit if the current exceeds a safe level.
Circuit Breaker
an automatic device for stopping the flow of current in an electric circuit as a safety measure.
Leakage Current
an inherent flow of current from the live electrical. parts of an appliance or instrument to the accessible metal casing or parts.
Short Circuit
an electrical circuit in a device of lower resistance than that of a normal circuit, especially one resulting from the unintended contact of components and consequent accidental diversion of the current.
Ground Fault Circuit Interrupt (GFCI)
the only protection device designed to protect people against electric shock from an electrical system.
Residual Current Device (RCD)
a current-activated circuit-breaker used as a safety device for mains-operated electrical tools and appliances
Equipotential Earthing
An identical state of electrical potential for two or more items.
Electrocution
death by means of electricity
macroshock
medical term for the effects of body exposition to electrical current, which can lead to electrocution and death.
