-people wanna arrive at conclusions in which they want to arrive at, but commonly they cannot reasonably justify their conclusions
- people want accurate info, but also want it to align with their beliefs
conformation bias
preferring into that confirms existing beliefs
who is pushing science denial
oil and gas companies, political parties and media outlets (climate denial)
tobacco, conflicting countries… (other science denial)
what are the 5 stages of climate denial
1) deny problem exists
2) dey we caused the problem
3)deny it is actually a problem
4)deny we can solve the problem
5) its too late
whats is conspiracy
a secret agreement by a group to gain political or economic power, violate rights or alter govt institutions
cultural/ personal cognition
the act of forming strong beliefs that uphold their self image or the expectation of their culture
what is woke washing
the appropriation of ethical values in order to improve the reputation of a standing entity or business.
larger companies and government systems commonly preform this to contribute to climate denial… ‘delaying the effects of climate change”
