Week 7 Flashcards
What happens if P is less than or greater than 0.05
If it is less than we conclude that a finding is statistically significant
If it is greater than we conclude that statistical significance was not suspected
A positive slope means a positive correlation, define the strength of the correlation
• correlations from 0 to 0.25 (or –0.25) indicate no relationship (or poor reliability)
• those from 0.25 to 0.50 (–0.25 to –0.50) indicate a fair relationship or fair reliability
• those from 0.50 to 0.75 (–0.50 to –0.75) indicate a moderate to good relationship or moderate to good reliability
those greater than 0.75 (or –0.75) indicate very good to excellent relationship or reliability
Define construct validity
When you want to know if a test measures some underlying psychological construct
Define criterion validity
When you want to know if test scores are systematically related to other criteria that indicate that the test taker is competent in a certain area
Define content validity
When you want to know whether a sample of items truly reflects an entire universe of items in a certain topic
Describe the difference between a systematic and random error
Systematic error - quantify how off you are, your precise but not accurate
Random error- you need to increase the sample size, as your accurate but not precise
Define intra and inter rated agreement
Intra rater - difference in agreement when asking at different times of the day
Inter rated agreement - Does your colleague see the same thing
Define test - retest
Will the outcome measure the same overtime
Define validity
The extent to which the instruments that are used in the experiment measure exactly what you want them to measure
Define reliability
The extent to which outcomes are consistent when the experiment is repeated more than once
Define subjective measures
Are influenced by the observers judgement (ranking the severity of a stutter from one to ten
Define objective measures
Involves the impartial measurements (stopwatch over 100 metres)
