week 6 pre lecture quiz Flashcards
At what point would a pregnant person no longer ‘need’ their corpus luteum?
Roughly 8 weeks after Day1 of LMP.
human placental lactogen (hPL)
-is produced by the placenta
-rises in female’s blood in late pregnancy
-causes an increase in maternal blood sugar
Corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH):
-leads to release of DHEA-S from fetal adrenal glands via it’s actions on the fetal pituitary.
-leads to release of ACTH by the fetal pituitary.
-is produced by the placenta in humans.
via the pituitary and adrenal glands, leads to increased levels of circulating estrogens.
Later in pregnancy, estrogen:
-increase gap junctions between myometrial smooth muscle.
-induce expression of oxytocin receptors.
-has its ratio to progesterone (E:P) increase, relatively speaking.
-stimulate synthesis of prostaglandins.
