Censure
Strong, vehement expression of disapproval.
Admonishment, Castigation.
The husband offered a resolution of censure after the affair; she declined the offer and divorced him.
Dissemble
To give false or misleading appearance to.
To affect, to misrepresent.
When she dissembled her emotions, nobody saw that noticed her sad, lonely, and gloomy face.
Dissimulation
The act of disguising or concealing under a false appearance. Hypocrisy, Pretense. The dissimulation he showed in his drama class made him famous; he became a Hollywood actor in five years.
Droll
Amusing in an odd way.
Eccentric, whimsical.
The boy thought she was droll when she explained her passion; he loved her anyway.
Expectorate
To expel matter as phlegm, from the throat or lungs, by coughing.
Hawk, Spew.
If you find it hard to expectorate mucus when you’re sick, drink water beforehand.
Palpate
To examine by touch (doctors).
To percuss, To manipulate.
The doctor palpated my heart, checking for a heart disease.
Peremptory
Leaving no opportunity for denial; assertive in speech, tone. and manner.
Absolute, Incontrovertible.
In a peremptory tone, my mother told me to either wash the car or stay home on Friday.
Pusillanimous
Lacking courage or resolution.
Timorous, Craven.
With all the troubles going on, the last thing we need is another pusillanimous leader.
Surfeit
An excessive amount; overindulgence in eating and drinking
Satiety, Plethora.
We had a surfeit of food for thanksgiving this year; we shared a large portion to the homeless.
Adulation
Excessive devotion to someone; servile flattery.
Blandishment, sycophant.
The adulation he had for her felt intense; he decided to ask her out today.
