Ad hominem
(adj.) An argument appealing to feelings or prejudices rather than intellect. Attacking a person’s character rather than his position.
Black Humor
Use of the morbid and the absurd for darkly comic purposes – sometimes called a tragic farce.
Caesura (or Grammatical pause)
A pause or break occurring in a line of verse.
Canon
Those works generally considered by scholars, critics, and professors to be the most important to read and study, which collectively constitute the “masterpieces” of literature
Denouement (day-noo-mah)
The final unraveling of a plot – the solution to a mystery – an explanation or outcome
Understatement
A figure of speech in which the literal sense of what is said falls detectably short of the magnitude of what is being talked about.
