Week 5 - Tibia/Fibula, Knee & Femur Flashcards
what is the target of lateral tibia & fibula
VCR perpendicular to IR & center along midline of affected at mid-point between ankle & knee joints
what is the collimation of lateral tibia & fibula
Superior = knee joint
Anterior = soft tissue margins of anterior aspects of tibia including patella
Posterior = soft tissue margins of posterior aspect of lower leg
Inferior = ankle joint
what is the ideal position of lateral tibia & fibula
Tibia superimposes ½ of fibular head
Fibular midshaft not superimposed by tibia
Posterior aspects of distal tibia & fibula aligned
what is the ideal area of lateral tibia & fibula
Knee joint, ankle joint, surrounding soft tissues included
what is the target of AP tibia & fibula
VCR perpendicular to IR & center along midline of affected at mid-point between ankle & knee joints
what is the collimation of AP tibia & fibula
Superior = knee joint
Lateral = soft tissue margins of medial & lateral aspects of tibia & fibula
Inferior = ankle joint
what is the ideal position of AP tibia & fibula
Tibia superimposes ¼ of fibula head & ½ of distal fibula
Fibular midshaft not superimposed by tibia
what is the ideal area of AP tibia & fibula
Knee joint, ankle joint, surrounding soft tissues included
what is the AP single knee erect projection
HCR directed perpendicular to IR and center to point 1 cm inferior to apex of patella
what is the AP double knee erect projection
HCR directed perpendicular to IR and center to mid of vertical bucky, at level 1 cm inferior to apex of patella
what is the lateral knee projection
VCR angled 5 - 7 degrees cephaladly and center to point 2.5 cm distal to medial condyle
what is the collimation of AP knee erect projection
superior = distal third of femur
inferior = proximal third of tibia/fibula
lateral = soft tissue margins
what is the collimation of lateral knee projection
superior = distal third of femur
inferior = proximal third of tibia/fibula
posterior = soft tissue margin posterior to knee joint
anterior = patella to include surrounding soft tissue margins
what is the ideal position of AP knee
- Femoral epicondyles shown
- Symmetrical femoral condyles
- Intercondylar eminence is centered within intercondylar fossa
- tibia superimposes 1/3 of fibular head
- patella lies proximal to femoral patellar surface & slightly lateral to knee midline
what is not seen if knee is rotated too medially or laterally for AP knee
- Femoral epicondyles shown
- Symmetrical femoral condyles
- Intercondylar eminence is centered within intercondylar fossa
- tibia superimposes 1/3 of fibular head
what is not seen if knee is not fully extended for AP knee
patella lies proximal to femoral patellar surface & slightly lateral to knee midline
what is the ideal area of AP knee
knee joint, distal third of femur, proximal third of tibia/fibula, surrounding soft tissues included
