Counting the units involved
Expressing those units as a numerical value
Measurement principles
The unit must not be changed
No gaps or overlaps
Inverse relationship
Estimation
Determine the number that is precise enough to be useful
Tolerance of error
Refers to the exactness of the measurement needed - does not need to be perfect but depends on context
Choosing appropriate units
Decide weather informal or formal
Decide how accurate it needs to be
What is length?
