Week 5 - Limits etc Flashcards
How do we calculate the gradient of a graph at a certain point?
The slope of the tangent
If we have a chord of AB, how could we describe the slope of the tangent at A?
Gradient at A = the limit of gradient chord AB as B approaches A.
What is the formula for finding the slope of a chord AB?
(x+h) - x
Describe the method used to differentiate with respect to x, the gradient of point A on a graph
1st) Find the slope of the chord AB
2nd) Simplify the slope as best as possible
3rd) Use this to write point A as limit
4th) Remove H
What does the term ‘the first derivate’ refer to?
The gradient of the curve
How do you change 2/x^2 to remove the fraction?
2x^-2
How do you change the x root of a?
A^1/x
