Week 5 Flashcards
Photopic system
Bright light, come receptors located in fovea, not sensitive/good resolution, detail/color vision
How do photoreceptors work
Rods are filled with rhodopsin. Light causes chemical reaction in rhodopsin that releases energy which hyper polarizes bipolar cells with rod synapses
Bleaching of rhodopsin
Retinal+opsin
Particles of light split bond
Channels in cell membrane open(hyper polarize), activated synapsing bipolar cell
Regeneration (unite)
Neural connections
Ross/cones synapse with bipolar cells which then synapse with ganglion cells. Far more rods to bipolar cone ratio. Rgcs that synapse with rods magno, cones parvo
Scotopic system
Dim light, rod receptors outside of fovea, sensitive with low resolution, shades of gray
