week 5 Flashcards
Why do we need a basic understanding of anatomy?
-Accurate & safe treatment
- Educated Discussion
- Patient Confidence
Muscle feeling
- soft but springy
Adipose (fat) feeling
- soft but spongy
Nerve feeling
guitar string
Bone feeling
hard/prominent structure
AROM
-Active ROM
-moving yourself
PROM
-passive ROM
-others moving you
Why do we measure ROM?
- objective
-provides baseline
-measure progress
What 2 things affect ROM?
- joint mobility
- muscle flexibility
Goniometer
- measure joint angles
- shoulder, elbow, hip & knee
+ 5 degree
past anatomical
- 5 degree
missing movement
Manual Muscle Testing (MMT)
- measure of strength
- isometric
What does MMT measure?
- muscle
- muscle group
- myotome
Assess weakness in comparison to
- typical
- opposite side
- previous test
Grading of MMT
- 0/5- no contraction
- 1/5- no movement; some contraction
- 2/5- move against gravity; not full ROM
- 3/5- Move through full ROM against gravity
- 4/5 hold against mod. resistance
- 5/5- hold against max resistance
Anterior Precautions of THR
- No bridging past neutral
- No hip extension
- No external Rotation
Posterior Precautions of THR
No adduction
No hip flexion past 90 degrees
No internal rotation
THR walker precautions
- no twisting
- move walking + baby steps
Items to remembers when assisting patient with bed positioning
- Get in on good side
- Get out on bad sad
- Moderate assist (support affected leg)
What to review with surgical pt. before intervention
- WBR
- movement restrictions
Remember when assisting pt. to stand after leg surgery
- Slide operated leg out
- position on operated side
-support operated leg
