Week 4 - Use and development of the Dental Articulator Flashcards
What is the importance of articulator mounting?
When we make impressions, we need to have vectors of movement to give it funcitonality
What are the 3 types of dental articulators?
Non-adjustable articulators
Semi-adjustable articulators
Fully adjustable articulators
Non-adjustable articulators
They often lead to restorations with occlusal discrepancies, as they cannot reproduce the full range of mandibular movements
Semi-adjustable articulators
They are about the same size as the anatomic structure they represent
Using a bow-face transfer, the casts can be positioned with sufficient accuracy that will minimize the need for clinical adjustment
Can allow for the Bennett Side Shift
Fully adjustable articulators
Have a wide range of positions and can be set to follow patient’s border movements
Pantograph
A device that is used in conjunction with a fully adjustable articulator to follow the tracings of the mandible
Gives 6 graphs - 3 on either side
What are the planes of a pantograph?
Horizontal plane
Sagittal plane
Bennett’s angle
Movement along the horizontal of a pantograph
Fischer’s angle
Movement along the sagittal plane of a pantograph
