Week 4 - Slow & Forceless Pulses Flashcards
What are the slow pulses?
Slow, Moderate, Rough/Choppy
Describe a slow pulse
< 4 beats / breath
What pathologies are associated with a slow pulse?
Cold pattern - excess/vacuity
Qi / Blood vacuity
Heat bind - Yang Ming Bowel Pattern
Describe a moderate pulse
> 60 bpm
even
Feels slow although may not be
What pathologies are associated with a moderate pulse?
Symptoms of pathology - Recovering
Describe a rough/choppy pulse
Feels hesitant, uneven
< 4 beats / breath
< 60 bpm
What pathologies are associated with a rough/choppy pulse?
Blood Stasis, Qi Stagnation, Phlegm, Blood Deficiency
What are the forceless pulses?
Vacuous/Empty
Weak
Faint/Minute
Describe a Vacuous/Empty pulse
Large, soft, slow, forceless, empty with pressure
What pathologies are associated with a vacuous/empty pulse?
Blood vacuity
Fluid vacuity
summerheat / heat stroke
Qi vacuity
Describe a weak pulse
Found at deep level w/ heavy pressure
thin, small, forceless
What pathologies are associated with a weak pulse?
Qi / Blood Vacuity
Taxation - Chronic long-term illness
SP/ST yang vacuity
Describe a faint / minute pulse
Fine, Soft, extremely slack, sometimes present / sometimes not
What pathologies are associated with a faint pulse?
